Description
A fan illustration of the village of Pawtuxet from the point-and-click game (or 'clue' game as a former housemate used to call them) Necronomicon: The Dawning of Darkness (Wanadoo Edition, 2001), based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft. If anybody knows where the village is, and what it's called today, answers on a postcard please. I'm sure that it doesn't look like this today, but I have always appreciated the gloomy atmosphere that the setting created in the game, as frustrating and seemingly-impossible as point-and-click games can seem at times. I've always wondered whether there are still villages that look like this today, as they did in this interpretation of Lovecraft's work set in the not-so-distant past.
The illustration itself was meant to serve as a study into perspective and environment drawing. It also provided me with the opportunity to try out some new digital drawing and painting techniques.
